Second Indian doctor to receive this award in Leader in Science and Technology category
Recognising outstanding contributions and exceptional leadership in Research on Diabetology, Dr V. Mohan, Chairman of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialties and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, was honoured with the Lakshmipat Singhania Award in the category of ‘Leader in Science and Technology.’ at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow National Leadership Awards 2022-23 function which took place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on December 7th, 2023.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the prestigious award to Dr V. Mohan. This well recognised platform is a joint initiative by IIM Lucknow and the industrial conglomerate JK Organization, in Delhi.
In a career spanning over five decades, Dr V. Mohan has published 1635 papers including 1052 original papers which has received 193,000 citation and an h-index of 153. Dr Mohan has received numerous awards and accolades including the prestigious Dr. B C Roy Award from the Medical Council of India, the Dr. Harold Rifkin Award by American Diabetes Association and the Padma Shri in 2012 from the Government of India.
Dr V. Mohan has been at the forefront of promoting and pioneering breakthrough research in the field of diabetes through the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation including describing subtypes of type 2 diabetes and monogenic diabetes.
The Lakshmipat Singhania - IIM, Lucknow National Leadership Awards, held in honour of the late Lakshmipat Singhania, a pioneering industrialist, have recognised other scientists in the past including the Chemist Bharat Ratna Dr CNR Rao, Dr Kasthurirangan, Dr R.A. Mashelkar, Nuclear Physicist Dr Anil Dabolkar, former ISRO Chief G. Madhavan Nair.
