US-based monitoring technologies developer Masimo has launched its Root patient monitoring and connectivity hub with the early warning score (EWS).

EWS creates a score by gathering various vital sign and clinical observation information to determine the potential degree of patient deterioration.

The score is calculated based on various contributors such as oxygen saturation, pulse rate, respiration rate, body temperature, and systolic blood pressure. It is also determined by the level of consciousness, use of supplemental oxygen, and urine output.

Root employs Masimo SET Measure-through Motion and Low Perfusion pulse oximetry, SunTech blood pressure and Welch Allyn temperature monitoring, and rainbow SET pulse CO-Oximetry. It also uses NomoLine capnography and gas monitoring, O3 regional oximetry, and SedLine brain function monitoring.

The data collected through Root can be shared with Masimo Patient SafetyNet, allowing remote monitoring and clinician notification. Using Patient SafetyNet, the data can be automatically transferred to the electronic medical record (EMR).
