Its flagship event to be held at IIT Bombay on 17th April

Ankur Capital in collaboration with Hello Tomorrow Asia Pacific is organising the ‘TechSprouts Deep Science Forum 2023’. The flagship event will be held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay campus (VMCC Hall) in Mumbai on the 17th of April.

The objective of the event is to bring together all the stakeholders in the deep science ecosystem together- researchers, startups, universities, venture capitalists as well as industrial partners, who can network and collaborate on scaling up deep science technologies.

The agenda includes a series of deep dive discussions on scale up and commercialisation, fundraising and IP strategies for deep science startups. The event will also have a showcase of some of the very best deep science startups in the country.

Wadhwani Research Center for Bioengineering (WRCB) is the event partner along with support from Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), and BioSpectrum as the Media Partner.

The flagship event will be followed by ecosystem mixer events in Bengaluru (Indian Institute of Science) on 20th April and Chennai (IIT-M Research Park) on 24th April, 2023.

“The complex problems we face necessitate that we ideate and build solutions as a thoughtful collective, bringing together and leveraging the rich diversity of perspectives and expertise each of us represent. We are excited to partner with Ankur Capital on the TechSprouts Deep Science Forum 2023 on precisely this ‒ a coming together of India’s innovation ecosystem to collaborate and exchange notes on accelerating frontier technologies”, Xinyi Tow, Managing Director, Hello Tomorrow Asia Pacific.

In recent years, the deep science ecosystem in India has gained prominence through a growing network of academic institutions, government initiatives, and startups driving innovation across fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, space technologies, and quantum computing. However, the ecosystem still faces challenges such as limited funding, lack of industry-academia collaboration, and regulatory support.

To address these challenges, TechSprouts was founded by Ankur Capital as a platform to develop and engage the deep science ecosystem in India by bringing disruptive technologies from labs to the market. For over a year now, the team has produced online content in the form of articles and podcasts and has actively invested in startups leveraging cutting-edge tech like next generation molecular diagnostics, novel battery chemistries, and thermal imaging among others to disrupt existing paradigms.

“Deep disruptions for critical issues facing the world are going to depend on deep science. This has been underexploited in India. However, markets like India cannot wait for innovations from other markets to trickle down. Deep science innovations contextual to markets like India are on the rise. We are delighted to partner with Hello Tomorrow Asia Pacific to enable entrepreneurs to build out these innovations”, Ritu Verma, Co-founder and Managing Partner, Ankur Capital.
