BMG Labtech introduces a new multifunctional microplate reader

05 October 2004 | News

BMG Labtech has launched PHERAstar, a new multifunctional microplate reader to read the four leading detection modes in all plate formats up to 1536 wells.

It claims that the new product provides fast read times, high sensitivity for small well volumes, and flexibility to tackle the most demanding laboratory assays. The sensitivity and accuracy of the PHERAstar in all four-measurement modes is due to incorporation of Multiple Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs). This detection technology helps to perform all measurement modes without compromising on the previously inherent typical multifunctional designs.

Chemito introduces custom-made bioreactors

For successful fermentation, it is important to have stringent monitoring and control of parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and foam. Chemito, with its manufacturing expertise and instrumentation knowledge, has come up with bioreactors/ fermentors to offer tailor-made bio-solutions for the microbiologists.

The fermentors are reported to have been designed and fabricated keeping both usage and operational convenience in mind. Made of glass or stainless steel, of different capacities (suitable for tabletop and floor mounting), the systems can be offered with or without computer control. The systems offered are modular and can be easily upgraded with additional accessories for animal cell culture, plant cell culture and other special fermentation applications.

Delair introduces compressed air dryers

Delair India has launched delair FDI series-compressed air dryers to help remove moisture from compressed air and pneumatic lines. Water or moisture in compressed air system causes air leakages, damages tools, affects processes and spoils product quality. For general plant and instrumentation air where the requirement is between 3°C Pressure Due Point (PDP) to 6°C PDP, delair FDI series refrigeration dryers remove moisture by cooling the air.

The dryers are available in 28 standard models with capacities ranging from 10.6 CFM to 3540 CFM. The FDI series dryers come with compact cabinet style and portable design. These are fully automatic with digital display of dew point, operation status and fault indication. The dryers are claimed to be about 60 percent more energy efficient, providing pressure dew points down to 4°C. The FDI series- compressed air dryers are manufactured and marketed by Gurgaon-based Delair India Pvt Ltd.

Becton Dickinson launches bioanalyzer

Becton Dickinson has announced the launch of BD FACSArray bioanalyzer, a new platform for fast and sensitive high-content analysis of proteins in cell biology, immunology, and proteomics. Capable of both multiplexed bead and cellular assays, the BD FACSArray bioanalyzer is a "2 in 1" platform that is easy to-use and flexible and sensitive where needed. This system is aimed as a solution to accelerate the discovery process.

One of the significant benefits of this system, according to the company, is the high sampling speed, which is achieved by combining novel plate sampler technology with digital electronics, generating acquisition rates of up to 15,000 events per second. It is claimed that a 96-well plate can be run in less than 35 minutes. Further, the BD FACSArray bioanalyzer uses a microtiter plate.

Continuous cleanroom monitoring with Met One

The recent revision of Annex 1 of EC GMP has made it mandatory to continuously monitor Grade A areas in aseptic processing cleanrooms. Met One Models R2313/R2315 counters are said to be ideal for this purpose, providing a tough exterior for demanding environments where exposure to chemicals such as solvents and disinfectants is common. Using a sample rate of 1.0 cfm (28.3 L/min), these counters give statistically good evaluations of cleaner environments, such as ISO Class 5 (FS209E Class 100). The exterior metal components including the box itself are manufactured from 316L Stainless Steel to provide superior resistance to common disinfectants and mild chemicals. Extensive use of gaskets and O-rings prevent intrusion of dust and fluids into the counter enclosure, enhancing reliability and lifetime. The typical system provides two channels of count sizes but can be ordered with up to six channels. Standard communications via RS485 allows the counter to be positioned up to 4,000 feet from the data acquisition computer.
