Regulator to discuss issues with vaccine industry

Responding to the pleas of addressing their concerns, DCGI's interaction will definitely help in mitigating pending issues!

The meeting notice dated December 26, 2014 has asked all the vaccine manufacturers and importers in the country to join an interaction that is to be held on January 15, 2015 at the FDA Bhawan, in New Delhi.

The proposed meeting as been convened on current national and international scenario on vaccine development and its regulations. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss various issues, challenges, opportunities in respect of manufacturing of emergency/ priority vaccines including import of vaccines and regulatory pathways i.e to promote a legal, regulatory and administrative framework for the safety of vaccines at national and international levels.

The notice has been signed by Dr GN Singh, Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) also gave details about the program. Apart from welcome remarks from Dr Singh, the SWOT analysis by the deputy drug controller, Dr A Ramakrishnan. The time slots have been kept for the manufacturers and importers separately to highlight the challenges in their respective domains.

In his new year greetings message, DCGI has hinted at major revamps. Dr Singh remarked, "2015 would be the year for streamlining  of regulatory procedures without compromising patient safety."
