DBT's BITP for north east students

On behalf of department of biotechnology (DBT), ministry of science and technology, Government of India, the Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) is coordinating a scheme of practical industrial training for students from North Eastern States (viz. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim). The same will be conducted under the biotechnology industrial training programme (BITP) in the middle of the year 2013. The programme involves the practical training in various industrial aspects of the biotech industry.

Students with degrees in B.Tech./ B.E./ M.Sc./ M.Tech. in biotechnology or bioinformatics from recognized universities in north eastern states or with domicile of north eastern states are eligible under this programme. The students are placed for training in biotech companies willing to impart practical training to these candidates. The training is for a period of six months during which every trainee is paid a stipend of Rs 8000 per month.

The BCIL is also paid a bench fee to cover expenses towards training. This programme is mutually beneficial to the students and companies as it provides industrial exposure to the students and an opportunity for industry to select prospective manpower. This programme is advantageous for the companies as it gives them an opportunity to assess the performance of the trainees and subject to availability, suitable trainees could be considered for placement.
