DBT seeks comments on RCB bill
The bill granting autonomous status to RCB was unable to make it through various Parliament sessions during the UPA rule
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has invited comments on the draft of the bill for a Regional Center for Biotechnology (RCB) expected to be tabled in the upcoming winter session of the parliament. Once this bill is passed by the parliament, the institution will be able to get an autonomous status that will allow it to grant degrees to its students, which will be recognized worldwide.
This center, which will be hosted in a huge 200 acre biocluster at Faridabad, Haryana, is aimed at generating interdisciplinary manpower relevant to biotechnology that will facilitate in fulfilling the demand for trained and skilled work force in the country. The work is currently in progress at the cluster.
The primary mission of the center is to produce highly trained human resource to drive innovation in biotechnology. The interim laboratories and teaching infrastucture have been temporarily stationed at Gurgaon until the permanent structure comes up at Faridabad.
