At the BioSpectrum Excellence Awards 2025 held on December 5 in Delhi, Dr Renu Swarup, Former Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and chairperson of the Jury Panel delivered a profoundly insightful and forward-looking address that set the tone for the evening. Drawing from her decades-long experience in shaping India’s biotechnology and life sciences landscape, she emphasised the urgent need to accelerate innovation, strengthen translational research, and build sustainable pathways that take scientific ideas from laboratories to markets.
In her address Dr Renu Swarup highlighted how India today stands at a critical inflection point, with unprecedented opportunities in biotechnology, biomanufacturing, genomics, digital health, synthetic biology, agriculture, food systems, and medtech—and stressed that nurturing young innovators will be essential for capturing this potential.
