Taking yet another pioneering and life-changing step in the field of diabetic care, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC) has launched a first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence (AI)-driven Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Software.
This initiative aims to harness the latest artificial intelligence technology to detect early-stage diabetic retinopathy and apply this technology to offer quick and precise analysis that will help doctors make informed decisions.
This move further strengthens DMDSC's vision of offering holistic preventive care in the diabetic field. Set to be available across its 50 clinics nationally, the hospital has launched this initiative in its flagship Pondicherry and Thanjavur clinics in the first phase of the rollout.
Diabetic retinopathy ranks among the primary causes of vision impairment in individuals with diabetes, frequently going unnoticed until substantial damage has taken place. With this AI-powered screening, DMDSC aims to bridge the gap between early detection and effective treatment by providing quick, highly accurate, and accessible diagnostic solutions.

Anjana, Managing Director of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, said, “Diabetic retinopathy is a silent but severe complication that can lead to irreversible vision loss if left undetected. With diabetes cases on the rise, it is crucial to integrate preventive eye care into routine diabetes management. This AI-powered screening initiative is a game-changer, as it enables early detection and timely intervention, significantly reducing the risk of vision impairment. We have chosen Pondicherry and Thanjavur as the first locations for this rollout due to the high prevalence of diabetes in these regions and the need to strengthen accessible eye care solutions. Our goal is to ensure that patients receive proactive, high-quality care close to home.”
