Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated the Centre for Advanced Bladder Diagnostics in the Department of Urology and PET-CT and SPECT-CT facilities in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.

J P Nadda also visited the Heart Command Centre and Sports Injury Centre located at Safdarjung Hospital and reviewed the services and activities being offered at these centres.

The Advanced Bladder Diagnostic Centre has been established with the integration of video urodynamics and near infrared spectroscopy. The facility will provide assistance in conducting detailed assessment of bladder function and diagnosing urinary bladder disorders, including complex cases involving neurological conditions.

A significant feature of this centre is the integration of Video Urodynamic Study (VUDS) with brain mapping via Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), a first in India. This enables assessment of changes in cerebral blood oxygen levels during bladder filling and emptying and can help clinicians determine whether a bladder disorder is bladder-related, neurological, or a combination of both.

The centre is expected to serve approximately 5,000 patients annually, strengthening the availability of specialised urology diagnostic services at the hospital.
