The two-day Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit 2024 kicked off at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on Thursday, September 5. The summit, inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, positions Hyderabad as a leading hub for AI investment and innovation in India. The event will conclude on Friday, 6th September.

Themed "Making AI Work for Everyone," the summit aims to explore the latest advancements in AI and address its societal impact. This is the first time Hyderabad is hosting such a global event. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and State IT and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu were the chief guests at the inaugural event, which saw over 2,000 representatives from the global AI industry.

Prominent AI leaders such as Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, Daniela Combe from IBM, and Peter Diamandis of XPRIZE Foundation participated, sharing their insights on AI innovations, opportunities, and challenges.

During his keynote address, CM Reddy highlighted how past technological advancements like the invention of railways, airplanes, electricity, and computers transformed the world. He noted how AI represents the next big technological disruption. "Today, the greatest technological disruption is here—Artificial Intelligence," Reddy said, acknowledging both the hope AI brings for improving lives and the fears of job disruptions.

The summit features discussions on AI regulation, ethics, and societal impact, along with presentations of research projects, startup demonstrations, and new AI innovations. Four additional stages have been set up for panel discussions, allowing experts to engage in a variety of AI-related topics.

The Telangana government is using the summit to showcase Hyderabad's growing importance in the AI and IT sectors. As part of its long-term vision, the state announced plans to develop a 200-acre AI City within the proposed Fourth City of Greater Hyderabad. The government hopes the summit will attract global investment and attention to Telangana’s thriving AI sector.

Additionally, CM Revanth Reddy unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for AI development in Telangana during the event.
