The MSc biotechnology course is affiliated to Bangalore University, while the doctoral program is linked to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. A number of seminars have been organized in the past to help students understand the requirements of the biotech industry by representatives from Anthem Biosciences, European Molecular Biology Laboratoy, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences and more.

A valuable initiative has been the creation of the Oxford Biotechnologist's Society, that helps current students form a network with alumni, thus increasing the awareness about the opportunities in the job sector. An in house annual magazine, Biovistas, helps students hone their writing skills as well. A final year mandatory project, wherein students are encouraged to publish papers based on their research is considered to be one of the strong points of the program at Oxford School. The college is also a part of Karnataka's BT Finishing School program, the admission for which takes place through a common K-BAT entrance exam.

The department consists of highly experienced faculty, a majority of them who hold doctoral degrees. Since June 2011, the department has filed for three international and four national patents based on the research conducted by faculty members. Additionally, research projects sponsored by the government and industry worth more than Rs 4 crore are also underway since 2010. The research space consists of 12 working labs along with four research labs. The department also organizes campus placements for its students, with 20 companies offering jobs to students in the last academic year.
