Dialogue as a Means of Learning and Teaching
KS Rangaswamy College of Technology, Namakkal
KS Rangaswamy College of Technology is an autonomous, self-financed institution, affiliated to Anna University. Out of the large number of applications received by the Department of Biotechnology at the institute during 2012-13, it enrolled 16 students in the BTech course, 10 in MTech and 18 in MSc course respectively. Around nine students from the post-graduate courses opted for the higher research and 15 students found place in various multinational and local companies.
While the 65 research papers from the department were published in international journals, a good number of 60 papers were published in national journals. During 2010-13, the department filed 13 national patents and nine national patents for its research achievements. The department during 2010-13, received Rs 26 lakh worth of funding as a result of collaboration with the industry and at the same time, the government sponsored projects worth Rs 86 lakh were also commissioned to the department.
In order to enhance the research activities of the staff members and the students, a "research forum", has been introduced by the department and is being conducted at every fortnight interval for the past three years. All the staff members have presented their research findings and live discussions were arranged during the session.
