Health Minister of Nagaland recently inaugurated a 39 oxygenated bed extension hospital facility in Mokokchung, Nagaland, supported by the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) in partnership with Novo Nordisk Foundation, Denmark.

The 39 oxygenated bed hospital facility in Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung, Nagaland, Northeast India is part of a larger DKK 10 Million, (approximately Rs 12 crore) worth project to develop models for rapid augmentation of healthcare infrastructure in India with guidance from the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor, Govt of India, Invest India, and Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi, India. 

At the launch, Health Minister Pangnyu Phom said, “We are extremely thankful to all the agencies for setting-up such a facility in Nagaland. Such set-ups will benefit hugely to people of this region and we look forward to further setting-up of a 50-bedded critical care unit hereafter.”

The project initiated on 9th May, 2021 was slated to support establishment of new extension hospital facilities with mobile hospital units with a total 350+ beds and the capacity to treat close to 1300 COVID-19 patients per week with medical oxygen and respiratory support equipment among other critical care infrastructure. The work is now complete at eight sites across six states - Punjab, Haryana, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim. The work at Mokokchung, Nagaland site began in May 2022 and was finished in September 2022. The facility has been constructed with the expertise of Strawcture Eco which was the technical partner for the site. The facilities are equipped with all the necessary amenities and are expected to enhance the pandemic preparedness capacity of the area. Additionally, the facility will be used in various healthcare efforts in the future such as treating dengue patients and as a general ward, etc.
