3M launches Avagard surgical scrub

3M recently announced the launch of Avagard, considered the world's first and only FDA, NDA approved waterless surgical scrub. It contains 1 percent chlorhexidine gluconate and 61 percent W/W Ethyl alcohol. 3M has used chlorhexidine in the combination for Avagard as it is a superior antiseptic compared to betadine.

Another significant feature of Avagard is that it contains moisturizing cream which protects the skin from dryness resulting from repeated scrubbing. Avagard is a dry surgical scrub which does not require water, unlike conventional handscrubs which involve continuous flow of water for 3-5 minutes.
