GE Healthcare has unveiled Discovery IQ, an advanced Positron Emission Tomography/ Computed Tomography (PET/CT) molecular imaging system designed in India. The new Discovery IQ is the result of $15 Million (INR 90 Crores) investment, and three years of close collaborative development with Indian nuclear medicine physicians and oncologists.

The new GE Discovery IQ PET/CT comes with advanced early disease detection capabilities as well as measurements to understand patient's response to cancer treatment.

"GE's Discovery IQ PET CT is disruptively innovated in India in collaboration with Indian oncologists and academicians with the primary mission of increasing access to affordable cancer care for India," said Mr Terri Bresenham, president and CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia.

Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research, Coimbatore has installed this sophisticated CT Scan machine. The Institute claimed that it is the first hospital in the country to install the device.

Mr P Guhan, director of the institute said, "By the use of this technology the hospital would be able to detect cancer at an early stage, individualise the treatment, assess treatment response and detect cancer recurrence."
