Merck has announced an initiative #MForHER to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of women in scientific research.

Science and gender equality are vital to our world’s aspiring sustainable development goals. The initiative has been launched in the week of International Women’s Day of Women & Girls in Science, to celebrate their achievements in the field of science and technology and recognize them for their hard work and dedication.

According to UNESCO’s 2019 data, less than 30 percent of researchers worldwide are women. In recent years, the gender gap in STEM fields has successively decreased. Thanks to the indomitable spirit of all women in science who are role models to the next generation of curious minds.

The International Women and Girls in Science Day observed every year on February 11, encourages girls and women to pursue professions in STEM-related fields and honors their scientific contributions.

The company takes immense pride as 53% of its global R&D workforce are women. The campaign celebrates the indomitable spirit and commitment and aims to support more girls to adopt a career in STEM. The posts encourage followers to share their thoughts on social channels using the hashtag #MForHER while nominating them for a surprise gift, while telling her how amazing she is with a personalized card.
