Dr S Anand Kumar, director, AstraZeneca Research Foundation India, has been named as the honorary director of The Association of Biotechnology-led Enterprises (ABLE). Dr Kumar has been associated with AstraZeneca Research Foundation India since 1988. Prior to which he worked as a scientist in various capacities both in India and abroad. Dr Kumar is a founding member of several biotechnology companies in India including Astra Research Centre India, Syngene International, XCyton Diagnostics and Gangagen Biotechnologies. Dr Kumar has served on the committee for commercialization of biotechnology, UNIDO Vienna, Austria, the medical biotechnology task force, Government of India and the Indo-US vaccine action program apex committee. Presently he is a member of the patent screening committee of the DBT.

Radhika Choudary will join ABLE as its new executive director from September. She has been a consultant to the Karnataka State IT and BT Department. Prior to which she has had brief stints at Infosys and Texas Instruments. ABLE's former director general, Mr Nitin Deshmukh, continues to be a director but based out of Mumbai as he has moved to Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mumbai as its Head, Private Equity.


Arvinder Singh Joins Perkin Elmer (India)

Dr Arvinder Singh joined Perkin Elmer (India) as general manager-life sciences. Earlier he was with BD Biosciences as regional manager (Asia Pacific) for technology support and as business manager (India).

Perkin Elmer (India) is jointly promoted by LabIndia, its life sciences division offers unique products and technologies for drug discovery, functional genomics, proteomics, liquid handling, high throughput screening, etc. Perkin Elmer Inc is a global technology leader in life and analytical sciences and serves customers in 125 countries.


The launch of BioSpectrum Top20

The BioSpectrum Top20 issue (August 04), which carried the second comprehensive BioSpectrum-ABLE survey of the Indian Biotech Industry was launched by Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, President, ABLE, at a press conference in Bangalore. It was well attended by over 50 media personnel. Dr S Anand Kumar, Honorary Director - ABLE, Abraham Mathew, Chief Editor - BioSpectrum and N Suresh, Editor, BioSpectrum were also present at the launch.
