PerkinElmer expands its frontiers
Established in 2007,  PerkinElmer India has consolidated its stand in India and has ambitious plans on going forward

PerkinElmer India reported a turnover of Rs 140 crore for the year 2008-09. The company’s life sciences business accounted for 27 percent of this amounting to Rs 37.80 crore. A wholly-owned subsidiary of PerkinElmer, the company operates as direct sales, service and marketing operation targeting India’s thriving life science and analytical instrumentation markets. Globally, the company reported revenue of approximately $2 billion in 2008, has around 8,500 employees serving customers in more than 150 countries, and is a component of the S&P 500 index.
The company provides precision instrumentation, testing systems and components, software and services for a wide range of scientific and industrial laboratory applications. Its products are used in predictive diagnostics, personalized medicine and environmental monitoring. PerkinElmer India currently employs approximately 170 people in Bangalore, Baroda, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Thiruvananthapuram.
PerkinElmer’s cellular imaging and analysis product regime includes high content screening systems and image-based analysis with platforms like Operetta, live cell imaging systems and softwares like Acapella, Volocity and Columbus.  In analytical sciences space,  products range includes FTIR and FTNIR spectrometers, UV/Vis and NIR spectrometers-Raman spectrometers and imaging systems, elemental analysis (TEA) atomic absorption (AA) spectrometers, coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometry (MS), gas chromatographs and MS¯liquid chromatographs (LC, HRLC and  UHPLC), microscopy and imaging system-other hyphenated techniques, data systems and laboratory information management (LIMS) validations.
PerkinElmer  has a  Biodiscovery division  which mainly caters to the drug discovery customers with specialized tools for cell biology related research. It has a plethora of reagents, consumables and instruments which facilitate detection analysis and further screening and profiling of various classes of druggable targets like esp. kinases and GPCR’s. The company has  also set  up a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence at Mumbai.
In addition to this recently the company has announced its plans to establish a biopharma Center of Excellence in Hyderabad. This center which will open in October, 2009, will be the second high-tech facility recently established by PerkinElmer in India. The Hyderabad facility complements the recently-opened PerkinElmer EcoAnalytix Center of Excellence facility in Mumbai, established in May 2008 and dedicated to environmental health sciences. The new biopharma center will provide regional PerkinElmer clients and partners in India with access to established and emerging drug discovery and pharmaceutical quality assurance and control applications and technologies, training facilities and expertise.
