TEKCEM G bone cements are indicated for the fixation of prosthesis to living bone in arthroplasty procedures
American medical device company Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. has announced the launch of Tekcem 1G and Tekcem 3G antibiotic bone cements in India.
TEKCEM G bone cements are indicated for the fixation of prosthesis to living bone in arthroplasty procedures or joint reconstruction following trauma, in primary and revision surgeries. Tekcem offers several key advantages, including the incorporation of gentamicin (1G) for superior bacterial defense, ensuring better efficiency against infections. Its formulation boasts lower monomer release, reducing toxicity and shrinkage, while promoting improved implant fixation and minimising the risk of monomer shock.
Gentamicin is a highly hydrophilic, bactericidal, broad-spectrum antibiotic used for the treatment of various Gram-positive and Gram-negative infections including pathogenic species of: Escherichia, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Serratia, Shigella, Staphylococcus aureus, some Proteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Additionally, with the lowest exothermicity of 68.9°C, Tekcem reduces the risk of necrosis. Tekcem 1G’s high viscosity makes it particularly ideal for knee arthroplasties. Certified under the European MDR (Medical Device Regulation), Tekcem sets a new standard in bone cement technology.
