To address critical health challenges in India by combining expertise
RV University’s School of Economics and Public Policy (SOEPP) recently inaugurated the Centre for Global Health and Development (CGHD). The Centre was jointly inaugurated by distinguished experts in the fields of health and public policy.
Prof. Ranjini C. Raghavendra who heads the Centre, presented the Centre's vision, mission, and focus areas, along with a tentative roadmap of activities planned for the academic year 2024-25.
The dignitaries also unveiled the logo of the new Centre, designed by an alumnus of RV University. This event marks the first major initiative by SOEPP since its establishment.
India has made significant strides towards achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The NITI Aayog's SDG India Index 2020-21 report shows that India's overall score for SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) improved from 61 in 2019-20 to 74 in 2020-21.
The launch of the Centre for Global Health and Development at RV University addresses critical health challenges in India. By combining expertise in non-communicable diseases, capacity building, and sustainable development, the CGHD is aimed at influencing both policy and practice.
The Centre's establishment is timely, given India's health-related economic burdens and recent progress in digital health and SDGs. Through its multidisciplinary approach focusing on research, education, and community engagement, the CGHD aims to drive improvements in global health outcomes and contribute to India's development agenda.
In addition to the inauguration, the Centre for Global Health and Development (CGHD) organised a panel discussion on ‘Global Health Challenges in the Post-COVID-19 World.’
