IIT D, JNU ink MoU for academic cooperation

The MoU intends to further the academic objectives of each institution

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT D) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic cooperation.

The MoU intends to further the academic objectives of each institution and to promote better understanding between the faculty and students of IITD and JNU.

IITD and JNU recognise their strengths in research and education in one or more disciplines of science, engineering, management and social sciences, and their mutual interest in engaging themselves in academic cooperation.

Under this MoU, the two institutions will focus on:

  • Enabling postgraduate, including PhD students, to enroll for courses at the other institution
  • Joint research activities
  • Participation in seminars and academics meetings
  • Exchange of academic materials and others information
  • Courses offered jointly with faculty from the two institutions

IITD and JNU will support jointly-supervised PhD students through the School of Interdisciplinary Research (SIRe) at IIT Delhi. These students can be supported through funding from outside agencies obtained through IITD and / or JNU.

The two Institutions will also let their faculty and students use each other’s research facilities. JNU has Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility (AIRF) and IITD has Central Research Facilities (CRF).

According to the MoU, JNU may explore availability of a suitable space for a Joint Research Park and IITD will raise overall financial support to build the Park after getting all internal approvals required in both the Institutions.

The two institutions will organise two seminars (one at IITD and one at JNU) in each semester by faculty/ scientist on general interest to broad or non-specialist audience.

Similarly, two workshops will be organised per academic year (one in IITD and one in JNU). The host institutions will contribute/ raise resources for the workshop.

IIT Delhi and JNU have also agreed to work in the area of providing access to library for faculty and students who have registered for courses or engaged in joint research.
