The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has elected Dr. Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director of the George Institute for Global Health, India and former professor of nephrology at the Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, as President of the Society from 2019 to 2021in its recently concluded meeting at Mexico City.
Dr Jha said, “The ISN has contributed much to capacity building and practice and research and nephrology in the developing world. I speak from personal experience having been a direct beneficiary as a past ISN fellow and a participant of the Renal Sister centre program.”
Over time, Dr. Jha has been a member of the several ISN committees, task forces, councils and the Executive Committee.
Dr. Jha is a James Martin Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health, University of Oxford. He is a physician with a specialisation in the area of kidney diseases and serves on the international advisory boards of several organisations.
Prior to joining The George Institute, he was Professor of Nephrology and Head, Department of Translational Regenerative Medicine and Officer-In-Charge, Medical Education and Research Cell at the PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) in Chandigarh, India.
Dr. Vivekanand Jha serves on the international advisory boards of several organisations, including membership of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Human Cell, Tissue and Organ Transplantation, and the executive committee of the International Society of Nephrology.
