American firm Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has received approval for Emergency Use (EU) for its single-shot COVID-19 vaccine candidate in India.

"India has expanded its vaccine basket. Now India has 5 Emergency Use Authorised (EUA) vaccines", tweeted Mansukh Mandviya, Union Health Minister, Government of India.

India has so far administered Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V vaccines. Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company Cipla has also been granted approval to import the Moderna vaccine.

Hyderabad-based Biological E will be an important part of Johnson and Johnson's global supply chain network, for supplying its COVID-19 vaccine.
