Biosuppliers
growth slides to 16 percent
Biosuppliers, who were registering a growth rate of 30-40 percent
during the last six years, have been hit hard in 2008-09. The
biosuppliers industry's growth slowed in 2008-09 in line with
the trend observed in the biotech industry. This industry registered

growth.
For the year ended March 31, 2009, the industry registered Rs 3,621
crore in revenues as against Rs 3,135 crore during 2007-08. The
biosuppliers were hit primarily as the Indian biotech sector deferred
some of their infrastructure investments owing to the recessionary
trends. The rate of growth in Asia for most of the companies was also
slow compared to that in 2007-08 and the growth there was around 6
percent mark for most companies considering the foreign currency
movement.
