Himalaya Wellness Company has entered into a licensing agreement with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), Lucknow, to develop a new evidence-based intervention for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
The collaboration brings together CSIR-CDRI’s expertise in drug discovery and phytopharmaceutical research with Himalaya’s capabilities in herbal research and product development. The partnership aims to advance the discovery and development of a safe and effective therapy for PMOS, a complex condition that affects approximately 1 in 8 women and more than 170 million people globally.
Unlike conditions that affect a single organ or pathway, PMOS involves interconnected reproductive, metabolic, and endocrine factors. This complexity can make its management challenging and underscores the need for approaches that address the condition more comprehensively.
Under the agreement, a standardised herbal extract developed by CSIR-CDRI scientists, Dr T. Narender and Dr Rajesh Jha, will be advanced by Himalaya Wellness Company, for its potential application in PMOS. The company will focus on formulation development, clinical safety, and efficacy evaluation, with the broader objective of translating scientific research into a potential therapeutic option for women.
The collaboration reflects the growing importance of industry-academia partnerships in translating scientific discoveries into potential healthcare applications. By combining research capabilities, such partnerships can help advance innovation while enabling specialised scientific expertise and industry development capabilities to work towards a common healthcare objective.

Organon, a global healthcare company focused on women's health, has signed an agreement sealing a shared commitment with two 2026 Her Health Grant recipients in India: Population Services International India (PSI India) and Ipas Development Foundation (IDF).
The grants will support programmes addressing adolescent health and well-being in Bihar and expanding access to contraceptive choice through the private health sector in Uttar Pradesh.
The Organon Her Health Grants is a global programme designed to support organisations that expand access, equity, and informed choice for women and girls, marking a significant milestone in local community efforts to strengthen women’s health initiatives.
PSI India will implement the AWESOMM_HER programme in Bihar across five districts, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria and Gaya, integrating nutritional support, menstrual health and hygiene education, and mental health resilience counselling into the daily lives of adolescent girls.
On the other hand, Ipas Development Foundation will work across five districts of Uttar Pradesh to strengthen the private health sector's capacity to offer women a fuller range of contraceptive choices, with a focus on long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) methods.
Speaking on the signing of the Her Health Grants agreement, Andreas Daugaard Jørgensen, Managing Director of Organon Asia Pacific, said: “India is home to the largest adolescent populations in the world and some of the most significant unmet needs in women's health, so this is an important focus for Organon. These two programmes tackle different points in a woman's life, from the health information a teenager needs to the contraceptive choices a woman makes as an adult. Both programs can have significant impact for education, health and opportunity for the women.

AI-guided design of novel proteins targeting key drug receptors

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur worked with the laboratory of Nobel Prize winner Prof. David Baker at the University of Washington to help design a new kind of small protein.
These proteins can block a group of receptors called GPCRs (G protein-coupled receptors), which are present on the surface of our cells and play a part in how many modern medicines act.
The study titled “De novo design of miniproteins targeting GPCRs” has been published in the journal Nature. It shows how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to efficiently design and find the miniproteins that attach to specific GPCRs and change how they behave.
The team designed miniproteins for several GPCRs, including two called CXCR4 and CCR5. Both are being studied as possible drug targets for cancer and for viral infections such as HIV.
IIT Kanpur also contributed to visualising how one of these designed miniproteins attaches to the CXCR4 receptor. Using a powerful imaging technique called cryo-electron microscopy at its cryo-EM facility, researchers could see exactly how the two molecules fit together and how the miniprotein affects the receptor.
The findings of the study reveal that AI-based protein design is a practical tool for drug discovery. While these specific proteins are not medicines yet, and years of further testing lie ahead before it reaches the clinic, the study offers a workable method for designing targeted, protein-based treatments for receptors that have been difficult to target with drugs.

Next steps would be refining the formulation and dosing in pre-clinical tests

Scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have revealed how an experimental molecule called EP67 switches on an important receptor found on human immune cells.
EP67 is a candidate "adjuvant", an ingredient added to vaccines to make them work better. The finding gives researchers the first clear, close-up view of EP67 gripping its target, and hands them a blueprint for designing safer vaccines and new immune-based treatments.
When we catch a bacterial or viral infection, our immune cells release a small protein called C5a, which primes the immune system to fight back. But too much of C5a for too long leads to inflammation that is harmful and can damage healthy tissue. To prevent this, the body uses enzymes in the blood to break C5a down quickly once the threat has passed.
The researchers at IIT Kanpur took a cue from this natural safety mechanism and built a stripped-down copy of C5a, a short chain of just ten amino acids named EP67, that keeps the useful part of C5a's activity but works in a gentler way. It wakes up two kinds of immune cells, dendritic cells and macrophages, which help the body build lasting protection. At the same time it barely affects neutrophils, the cells most responsible for the unwanted inflammation. This is exactly what is needed in a vaccine booster - a stronger, longer-lasting immune response without the collateral damage.
The detail of knowing precisely how EP67 fits its target has helped the team to redesign it, adjust the amino acid sequence to make the molecule sturdier and better at hitting its mark. From here onwards, the next steps would be refining the formulation and dosing in pre-clinical tests.
The research was supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The high-resolution structure was determined at the National cryo-EM Facility at IIT Kanpur, set up with funding from ANRF.

GIMS is emerging as a critical centre for paediatric orthopaedic care in western Uttar Pradesh

The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, with support from Healthium MedTech’s CSR initiative and implemented by Plan International India Chapter, is now fully equipped to undertake advanced paediatric orthopaedic surgeries.
In a major boost to child healthcare, the institute can now treat conditions such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), clubfoot, limb deformities, fractures and complex bone disorders.
With the installation of specialised equipment including the Midas Rex MR8 High Speed Electric Drill System, Paediatric Hip Plating Set, Paediatric and Small Bone Drill & Saw System, Paediatric Orthopaedic Instrument Set and a C-Arm Machine, GIMS is now ready to deliver precise, safe and age-appropriate surgical care for children.
India faces a significant burden of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, with 1 to 2 percent of children born with disorders such as clubfoot, and many others developing deformities due to trauma, infections or untreated conditions. In states like Uttar Pradesh, limited access to specialised care often delays treatment, increasing the risk of complications, disability and higher costs.
Addressing this gap, the strengthened infrastructure at GIMS is expected to benefit over 1,000 children annually, enabling timely interventions and reducing the need for referrals outside the region.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Guest, Dr G.N. Singh, Adviser to the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh said, “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality and timely healthcare. Strengthening public health institutions through such partnerships is essential to building an inclusive and equitable healthcare system.”

Reinforcing its commitment to making advanced Cancer Care more accessible and patient-centric, ShardaCare-Healthcity, the largest super speciality hospital in Greater Noida, has announced a significant strengthening of its Oncology programme, establishing Greater Noida’s first complete Cancer Care Center, with the onboarding of four senior specialists across Surgical and Medical Oncology.
The expansion includes the appointment of Dr Malay Nandy as Senior Director & Head, Medical Oncology; Dr Parveen Mendiratta as Director & Unit Head, Surgical Oncology; Dr Sanjeev Kumar Tuli as Associate Director, Surgical Oncology, and Dr Ruchir Tandon as Senior Consultant, Medical Oncology.
The team is supported by a highly trained nursing and clinical support staff, collectively forming a comprehensive, patient-focused oncology unit equipped to manage a wide spectrum of cancer cases.
Cancer incidence is witnessing a steady rise in India, making it a major public health concern. According to GLOBOCAN 2022, the country reported over 1.46 million new cases, with a projected 12–15% increase by 2030. Cancer-related mortality remains high at over 850,000 deaths annually, largely due to late diagnosis, limited awareness, and restricted access to specialised care.
In response to these challenges, ShardaCare-Healthcity’s strengthened oncology programme bridges gaps between rising case volumes and access to coordinated, high-quality care by integrating medical, surgical, and radiation oncology within a single ecosystem. The programme offers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted and endocrine therapy, personalised plans, daycare and regional chemotherapy; minimally invasive, robotic and laparoscopic surgeries, organ-specific resections, and reconstructive procedures; along with advanced radiotherapy including IMRT, IGRT, VMAT, stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and precision image-guided treatments, enabling highly targeted and effective care under one roof.

To accelerate expansion, increase testing volumes, and deepen its presence in preventive healthcare

Noida-based Redcliffe Labs has announced the strategic divestment of its fertility services business, Crysta IVF, to DElhi-based Moon Care, the healthcare arm of MMG Group. The transaction reflects Redcliffe Labs' continued focus on strengthening its diagnostics capabilities and expanding its presence in preventive and advanced diagnostic services across India.
The move allows the organisation to consolidate further its efforts to deliver technology-led accessible, accurate, and affordable diagnostic solutions at scale.
At the same time, Crysta IVF, which achieved EBITDA profitability at the start of FY26, is well-positioned to continue its growth journey under the dedicated leadership of Moon Care, which will further strengthen its focus on delivering specialized fertility care and expanding access to reproductive health services.
Speaking on the development, Aditya Kandoi, Founder & CEO, Redcliffe Labs, said: “Our priority has always been to build a strong, accessible diagnostics ecosystem rooted in preventive healthcare - with the goal of adding healthier years to people’s lives. This divestment allows us to sharpen that focus even further."
For patients already served by Crysta IVF, the transition will be seamless, with no change to ongoing operations. The existing Crysta IVF team and leadership will continue to lead the business, working closely with Moon Care, which will provide strategic guidance and mentorship. This ensures continuity of care without disruption, while also enabling the introduction of new initiatives to further enhance patient outcomes.
For Redcliffe Labs, the deal signifies a sharpened focus on the diagnostic segment. This will enable the company to accelerate expansion, increase testing volumes, and deepen its presence in preventive healthcare, driving greater impact through early detection and accessible care.
Alvarez & Marsal acted as the exclusive advisor to the transaction.

ShardaCare-Healthcity, the largest super-specialty hospital in Greater Noida, has announced the inauguration of North India’s largest Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Centre, marking a significant milestone in advanced tertiary care in the region.
The centre was formally inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh, Brajesh Pathak, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, medical experts, and leadership from Sharda Group.
The newly launched BMT Centre at ShardaCare-Healthcity is designed to deliver comprehensive, world-class care for patients suffering from complex hematological conditions such as leukemia, lymphoma, thalassemia, aplastic anemia, and other life-threatening blood disorders.
Equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, advanced infection-controlled units, and a multidisciplinary team of highly experienced specialists, the centre sets a new benchmark for bone marrow transplant services in North India.
The centre will provide comprehensive bone marrow transplant services for both pediatric and adult patients, including matched sibling, matched unrelated donor, and haploidentical transplants. It will also offer autologous BMT for autoimmune conditions, particularly multiple sclerosis, backed by high-dose and induction therapies, targeted treatments, immunotherapies, advanced graft manipulation, and CAR-T cell therapy.
Equipped with dedicated HEPA-filtered transplant units for strict infection control, the centre also offers advanced diagnostics and immunology support for accurate donor matching and close monitoring. With expertise across autologous, allogeneic, and haploidentical transplants, along with integrated critical care, oncology, and hematology services under one roof, the facility is designed to deliver safe, seamless, and patient-centric care focused on better outcomes and recovery.
What distinguishes ShardaCare-Healthcity’s BMT Centre is its scale, robust clinical protocols, and ability to provide end-to-end transplant care within a single integrated ecosystem, making advanced transplant services more accessible while reducing dependence on metro cities. A large number of adults continue to remain undiagnosed or live with long-term complications due to late detection. Among children, the challenge is equally concerning, with more than one in four aged 0 to 12 years suspected of having a blood disorder being diagnosed with inherited haemoglobin diseases and over half of them are below the age of three.

In a move aimed at expanding access to advanced tertiary care in Western Uttar Pradesh, where patients often travel to Delhi-NCR for complex medical treatment, Sarvodaya Healthcare has acquired Nayati Hospital in Mathura.
The acquisition has been completed through the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) process following approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). With this addition, Sarvodaya Healthcare’s total capacity has expanded from 800 beds to 1200 beds across the group.
The hospital will now operate under Sarvodaya Healthcare’s management with 400 beds and is expected to become fully operational by June 2026, improving access to advanced healthcare services for patients across Mathura and neighbouring districts.
It will focus on key specialties, including cardiology and cardiac surgery, oncology, orthopaedics and joint replacement, neurosciences, gastroenterology, and critical care, while also working towards national quality accreditations such as NABH and NABL.
The facility includes 100 ICU beds, nine modular operating theatres, advanced diagnostic services, and round-the-clock emergency and trauma care. Sarvodaya Healthcare plans to invest in medical technology upgrades, strengthen clinical infrastructure, and recruit specialist doctors as part of the hospital’s operational revival.

The hospital is also expected to generate significant employment in the region, with plans to create nearly 1000+ direct jobs over the next three to four years across clinical, nursing, paramedical, and administrative roles. As part of its broader efforts to support the regional healthcare ecosystem, Sarvodaya Healthcare also plans to organise health camps, screening initiatives, and training programmes for nurses and paramedical staff, while exploring collaborations with local doctors and healthcare centres.

Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the global congregation of investors and entrepreneurs 'Uttar Pradesh Pharma Conclave 1.0' at Hotel Taj, Lucknow, on 3 February.
The Chief Minister said that Uttar Pradesh is working with a clear vision and strong policy framework to become a leading centre for pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation. The 'Bulk Drug Pharma Park' being developed in Lalitpur will not be just an industrial unit, it is being developed on a hub-and-spoke model with state-of-the-art R&D facilities. Medical Device Parks, a US-FDA testing lab and world-class logistics hubs are being developed in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Through the upcoming budget session in February, steps will also be taken towards establishing a world-class pharma institute in Lucknow. New pharma parks will also be developed in Bareilly and other districts.
He further said, "The Pharma Conclave is part of the resolution to establish Uttar Pradesh as a manufacturing and innovation hub in the pharma sector. The government is moving forward with full strength to promote AI, telemedicine, deep-tech, med-tech, health-tech and clinical research."
During the programme, the video message of Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda was shared. In the message, he said, "Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a key state, strengthening India’s global leadership in the pharma and healthcare sector. Under the leadership of PM Minister Narendra Modi, UP’s role is decisive in India’s transition towards an entrepreneurship- and innovation-driven economy.
'The Bulk Drug Pharma Park' in Lalitpur, the 'Medical Device Park' in the Yamuna Expressway region and the State Pharmaceutical Policy-2023 are positioning Uttar Pradesh as a reliable manufacturing hub. With better connectivity, strong infrastructure, skilled human resources and an investor-friendly environment." He further added that UP is becoming the preferred destination for pharma investment. The policy vision of the Centre and the ground-level efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government are rapidly advancing the state towards becoming a global center for pharma and biopharma manufacturing.
Representatives of the industry presented the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) coffee table book 'The Alchemy of Cure' to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The book is a well-structured and inspiring document of India’s pharmaceutical journey, effectively portraying the story of how India became the 'Pharmacy of the World' through entrepreneurship and strong policy support.
To further accelerate the growth of the pharma sector, industry representatives emphasised the need for regulatory standardisation, quality assurance, infrastructure upgradation and strengthening academic and research institutions. They also stressed increasing investments to promote research and development, clinical trials and innovation, along with reinforcing public-private partnerships and supportive policy reforms.

Jubilant Biosys Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jubilant Pharmova Limited, and a global CRDMO operating from five sites across India and Europe, has announced the opening of a new discovery and preclinical facility at Noida, doubling its overall chemistry capacity for discovery research and scale-up projects.
The multimillion-dollar facility combines discovery and early-phase scale-up capabilities with R&D labs and two pilot plants, meeting growing demand in particular for fee-for-service (FFS) contracts.
“We have grown rapidly over the past year, well above the wider market, by expanding our FFS offerings, which enable innovators to advance discovery projects with lower risk. With improving funding conditions, we anticipate even higher demand next year, and this new facility doubles our existing capabilities. From a client perspective, we can now provide faster discovery delivery and integrated scale-up, with projects seamlessly transferred to our GMP facilities ready for any IND filing and commercial phases” commented Giuliano Perfetti, CEO - Jubilant Biosys Limited.
The new Noida facility offers biotech and pharma partners a fully unified route from discovery to scale-up, augmenting the company’s existing Chemistry Research Innovation Centre (CRIC) in Greater Noida. Collectively, this brings the total numbers of scientists across the business to more than 1300, with the new facility adding multiple manufacturing lines and having already onboarded several new clients.
Designed to handle quantities from hundreds of grams up to 25 kg, the new small-molecule hub combines two pilot plant blocks with co-located discovery labs. It features 20,000 sqft of state-of-the-art R&D space as well as 15 reactors spanning a variety of sizes from 20L through to 250L. Significantly, the facility has been designed with a potential to be expanded multifold in future and has room to quadruple capacity as client demand grows.

The Vrindavan academy represents the second phase of the partnership, following the successful rollout of the first Standard Chartered–Shroff’s Eye Care Education Academy in Delhi. It will follow a hub-and-spoke model, and will provide localised, skill-based training in eye care for ophthalmologists and paramedics, with the Delhi facility as the hub for curriculum development, mentoring, and technical support.
India faces a critical shortage of trained ophthalmic professionals, and common causes of preventable blindness remain prevalent in rural areas, where access to specialised care is limited. The Vrindavan academy directly addresses this through capacity building, employment generation, and community-centric care delivery.
Over the next three years, this Vrindavan academy will train over 12,000 youth in diverse eye care fields. Key deliverables include training 70 ophthalmologists, 600 mid-career ophthalmologists, and 500 allied ophthalmic paramedics, with employment opportunities post training for over 70% of the trainees – 50% of which are going to be women. About 11,000 trainees will receive benefit from short-term courses and digital learning platform aiming to enhance their skills and delivery of eye care services to the community.
All programmes are accredited by the National Council of Vocational and Research Training (NCVRT), ensuring adherence to national standards in vocational healthcare education.

To transform complex surgeries, particularly for the orthopaedic, neurological and trauma care

In a major leap for advanced surgical care, Fortis Hospital Noida has become the first hospital in Noida to install the state-of-the-art ‘O-arm’ intra-operative X-ray system.
This breakthrough technology enables surgeons to visualise bones, implants -screws, plates, rods and catheters with high precision during surgery. Its highly enabled technological design enables the patient to be positioned within the circular scanner for a complete spine scan. This supports minimally invasive techniques, shorter operation times and significantly lower radiation exposure for both patients and medical teams.
When used with neuro navigation, the system acts like a GPS inside the body and enables surgeons to place implants with 99.9 percent accuracy while reducing surgical trauma and recovery time. Smaller incisions and minimal muscle injury contribute to faster healing and a reduced risk of infection.
Speaking about the new technology, Dr Rahul Gupta, Senior Director and HOD, Neuro and Spine Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Noida said, “The O-arm will greatly improve the accuracy and safety of surgeries. With advanced imaging and real time navigation, we can perform complex procedures with smaller cuts, less muscle damage, lower radiation exposure and quicker recovery time for patients. This pioneering technology significantly reduces surgery duration, lowers infection risks and enhances recovery outcomes. For patients, it means less pain, smaller scars and a quicker return to normal life. For surgeons, it offers unmatched clarity and confidence during critical procedures.”
With this addition, Fortis Hospital Noida further strengthens its position as a leader in healthcare technology. Fortis Noida is already equipped with modular operation theatres, robotic surgery capabilities and high-definition imaging systems, enabling it to deliver excellent medical care to patients from across the region.

GIMS Startup Centre for Medical Innovation is a public hospital-based incubator and the first-of-its-kind in UP. What was the objective of setting up this Centre?
The GIMS Startup Centre for Medical Innovation was established with the primary goal of addressing a significant challenge in India's healthcare sector: the heavy reliance on imported medical devices and the validation hurdles faced by domestically manufactured devices.
As the first public hospital-based incubator of its kind in Uttar Pradesh, our centre leverages the expertise and resources of a 630-bed hospital that serves over 50,000 patients every month. This unique setup allows us to bridge a crucial gap in the medical device development ecosystem.
Prior to the establishment of our centre, there was a noticeable disconnect between the end users of medical devices, primarily doctors and the innovators developing these technologies. Our incubator addresses this by enabling doctors to initially validate problem statements, ensuring that the solutions developed are practical and effective.
The GIMS Incubation Centre offers comprehensive clinical mentoring for startups through our Startup Clinic, which is accessible to anyone by appointment. Our focus is on fostering innovation in healthcare technology, particularly in rapidly advancing fields such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. By developing affordable and cutting-edge technologies, we aim to bring all stakeholders to the table, creating a collaborative environment for innovation.
We are currently in discussions with several IITs across the country to establish MoUs for clinical support, reinforcing our strength in clinical trials and efficacy testing. Our ultimate vision is to create medical technologies in India that can serve the world, with doctors incubating their research ideas into market-ready products.
Inaugurated by the Director General of Health Services, Government of India, our centre also holds the distinction of being a Stanford University Biodesign Centre in India.
We currently support 30 startups, primarily focused on medical devices. One of our standout startups, MATRI, which is developing a menstrual pain management device, has even progressed to the current season of Shark Tank, showcasing the potential and impact of our incubation efforts.

What are the unique features of this incubation centre and how will it foster research and medical innovations in the state of UP?
Our mission is to address the significant challenge of India's reliance on imported medical devices and the difficulties faced by domestically manufactured devices in the validation process. By providing a platform where doctors and innovators can work together, we aim to develop solutions that are both innovative and practically applicable, ultimately enhancing healthcare delivery in Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

What kind of infrastructure currently the incubation centre is having?
GIMS has allocated 15,000 square feet of space on the 4th floor of the hospital exclusively for the incubation centre. This comprehensive setup ensures that startups have access to all necessary resources in one location. An entire floor is dedicated to mentoring, with our expert faculty available during working hours to provide guidance and support. This ensures that startups have continuous access to clinical and technical expertise.
A fully equipped clinical trial unit is available, enabling startups to conduct essential clinical trials and validate their products under real-world conditions. The facility includes two meeting rooms and a conference room, providing spaces for collaborative discussions, presentations, and strategy sessions.
Also, there are co-working setups available for 30 startups, fostering a collaborative and dynamic environment. We support both physical and virtual incubation, with a physical capacity for 30 startups and the ability to mentor 100 startups virtually.
Our research wing is a standout feature, equipped with advanced facilities such as genome sequencing, BSL-2 and BSL-3 VRDL (Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratories), and a molecular research lab. These state-of-the-art resources enable high-level biomedical research and development.
We have a world-class skill lab that provides practical training and development opportunities, ensuring that startups can build and refine their technologies with hands-on experience.
Our hospital and laboratories are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). This ensures that startups have access to facilities that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Startups require funding at every stage. How does GIMS plans to financially support its incubatees?
GIMS has developed a comprehensive plan to financially support its incubatees, ensuring they have access to necessary resources at various stages of their development. Here’s how GIMS facilitates funding and support for its startups:
GIMS has several venture capitalists (VCs) on its panel who act as mentors at the incubation centre. These VCs assist in screening startups and provide funding at different stages based on the startups’ portfolios. Their involvement ensures that startups receive not only financial support but also strategic guidance tailored to their growth needs.
Startups at GIMS have access to several grants aimed at different aspects of their development. These include grants for sustenance, prototype development, marketing, conferences, and more. This broad spectrum of funding opportunities helps startups navigate the financial challenges of early-stage development.
Most importantly, startups with a registered address in Uttar Pradesh are eligible for specific grants. However, GIMS also accommodates startups from other regions, ensuring they receive necessary support through the incubation programme.
GIMS is a member of various associations such as ISBA (Indian Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Parks and Business Incubators Association), which helps in networking and provides access to funding platforms. This membership broadens the funding and support network available to GIMS startups.
Out of 15 startups, 9 have been selected for the Stanford University Biodesign programme, which offers mentoring and prepares them for funding opportunities.
GIMS startups are part of a funding programme run by Delhi Ecosystem, ISBA, KPMG, and SIDBI. Currently, 10 GIMS startups are participating in this programme, with 3 reaching the final round. This programme provides critical financial support and enhances the visibility of startups to potential investors.
GIMS employs a co-incubation model where other institutions provide additional funds to GIMS startups. For instance, IIT Mandi funded a GIMS startup through the NIDHI PRAYAS programme. This approach has resulted in 30 per cent of GIMS startups receiving funding or grants through collaborative efforts.
Also, GIMS assists other incubation centres in validating their startups’ devices, reinforcing its role in the broader medical innovation ecosystem. This cross-incubation support helps in building a robust network of validated and market-ready medical devices.
GIMS has submitted a proposal for the BioNEST fund from BIRAC, which includes plans for a cleanroom facility, a bio-bank, and a prototype facility for startups. This proposal aims to further enhance the infrastructure and resources available to GIMS startups.
Many private institutions are joining hands with GIMS, contributing to the funding and support ecosystem. These partnerships expand the financial and developmental resources available to startups.
By leveraging these diverse funding sources and collaborative models, GIMS ensures that its startups receive comprehensive financial support and mentoring, enabling them to thrive and innovate in the competitive healthcare sector.

Has the centre planned to focus on a particular disease for R&D and innovation?
Yes, the GIMS Startup Centre for Medical Innovation has strategically planned to focus on specific diseases for R&D and innovation, with a particular emphasis on disease prevention.
We are actively inviting applications from across India to leverage technology for the prevention of various diseases. This initiative aligns with our broader vision of utilising advanced technology to improve public health outcomes and reduce the incidence of preventable diseases.
We partnered with the Netherlands-based foundation NLR (No Leprosy Remains) on June 11, to launch a dedicated startup cohort focused on early detection and management of leprosy. This collaboration aims to develop and implement technologies that can significantly improve the early diagnosis and effective treatment of leprosy, ultimately striving towards the eradication of this disease.
We are initiating a dedicated cohort to address menstrual hygiene, recognising the critical need for innovation in this area to improve women’s health and well-being.
Another focus area is non-communicable diseases (NCDs). By developing point-of-care (PoC) diagnostics and other innovative solutions, we aim to enhance the management and prevention of NCDs, which are a major health challenge globally.
Our vision also includes the development of advanced PoC diagnostic tools. These tools are crucial for early disease detection, timely intervention, and effective disease management, particularly in resource-limited settings.
The disease prevention cohort is already live, and we have received 25 applications to date. This enthusiastic response indicates a strong interest and need for innovative solutions in disease prevention.

Mentorship is key to the development of successful startups. How is GIMS planning to leverage its in-house medical fraternity to mentor the incubatees? Will there be external mentorship collaborations?
GIMS Centre for Medical Innovation has developed a robust mentorship framework to ensure the successful development of its incubated startups.
Our clinical mentors include experienced clinicians from GIMS, encompassing both academic and hospital settings. These mentors provide invaluable insights into the practical and clinical aspects of healthcare innovation.
