A team of scientists at the University of California San Diego may have found a cure for acne, but in the form of a vaccine.
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions that occurs when oil and dead skin cells clog up the pores.

The team of researchers found an antibody to a toxic protein secreted by the acne causing bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) on the skin. The protein is associated with the inflammation that leads to acne.

Researchers have developed a vaccine that will block the acne-causing effects of the bacteria without harming the benefits of bacteria.

Acne vulgaris is a disease most commonly associated with P. acnes infection. The antibiotics most frequently used to treat acne vulgaris are erythromycin, clindamycin, doxycycline and minocycline.

So far the vaccine has been tested on skin biopsies from acne patients which have produced good results.

The next steps will be clinical trials and will hopefully make the vaccine public within the next couple of years.
