The DSS Group of Companies includes Olympus India and DSS Imagetech. It is a 45-year-old company with a turnover of approximately $13 million. The company's revenues are growing by 30 percent every year. It has registered an impressive growth of Rs 53.99 crore in FY 06-07 as compared to Rs 41.29 crore in its overall revenues segment last year. The life sciences division grew by 50 percent and the microscopy division grew by 31 percent. It has grown from Rs 20 crore to Rs 50 crore in the last two years and plans to grow to Rs 100 crore in the next three years.
It attributes the growth to a good product portfolio, good services and the application in terms of training people in new technologies. It is only company that is facilitating the transition of molecular biology from research to diagnostics primarily because of the association of three major companies â€“ Olympus (microscopy), Genomic Solutions (microaaray), Abbott and Dako (flowcytometer)
The total number of microarray installations were 28-32 in the last three years. In the last two years, DSS Imagetech and Genomic Solutions were rated as having the largest market share in the microarray segment. During the last one year, DSS has focused on being identified as a manufacturing company first and then a supplier. The company came up with a 50,000 sft manufacturing facility at Noida in the beginning of 2007 that was inaugurated by the CEO of Olympus worldwide.
DSS Imagetech has a market share of 35-40 percent in the Pre MALDI segment. The company has a 70 percent market share in the open microarray system.
DSS Imagetech now has also come up with training services in the field of molecular diagnostics, which include training on IHC and FISH as of now, with plans to expand into other biotechnological fields.
DSS Imagetech wants to extend itself to a precision optimal manufacturing company in terms of it vision. It wants to bring molecular biology close to the common person's life by applying it to the molecular diagnostics area as a part of its future plans.
