Health Ministry launches Janani platform for maternal and child health services

In a significant step towards strengthening maternal and child health services in the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the JANANI (Journey to Prenatal, Postnatal and Neonatal Integrated Care) platform at the recently concluded National Innovation and Inclusivity Summit – Best Practices Shaping India's Health Future.

Janani is a service-focused digital platform designed for comprehensive monitoring and maintenance of digital health records of women of reproductive age. The platform, developed as an upgraded version of the existing RCH portal, creates a long-term health record by recording key service delivery interventions in the continuum of care.

The platform aims to ensure smooth monitoring of maternal and child health services, including antenatal care, pregnancies for delivery, delivery, postnatal care, newborn care, home-based newborn and child care, and family planning. By enabling continuous monitoring and timely intervention, Janani strengthens service delivery and ensures continuity of care at every stage.

One of the key features of Janani is the introduction of QR-coded digital Maternal and Child Health (MCH) cards, which enable easy access and portability of health records. The platform also includes features such as automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, real-time dashboards for supervisory reviews, and fixed-list creation, enabling timely tracking, monitoring, and targeted interventions.
