DCGI available for public hearings from January 2013

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), Dr GN Singh will be available for the public interactions for two days every month from the year 2013. These hearings will be on the first and last week of each month and meant for common public, companies and other stakeholders.
The regulator will hear those cases for which the applicant has not received any communication during the last six months, from the date of last submission of application and query. The person who is the actual applicant for filing the application to obtain permission from DCGI office, would have to communicate the request to the DCGI through mail at least five days before the public hearing meeting along with his name, designation and mobile number. The first hearing is scheduled to be on January 4, 2013 at the Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO), FDA Bhavan, New Delhi.
As per the circular issued by CDSCO, other stakeholders who have special interest in public health by contributing in assuring the safety, efficacy and quality of drugs, cosmetics and medical devices which are manufactured for sale in India could also participate in public hearing. The agency has also directed its state heads to spread the word for more participation of the concerned persons in the process.
