TICEL Bio Park

Tamil Nadu is the first state in India to bring an exclusive biotech policy in September, 2000 for the economic development of the state integrating the bioresources and the technical capabilities available within the state.

Realizing the immense potential of biotechnology for innovative technological development and employment opportunities, Tamil Nadu came up with the TICEL Bio Park established in Chennai, and is in operation since November, 2004. Support / financial assistance (equity / term loan) was provided by TIDCO, TIDEL, Indian Bank, Karur Vysya Bank and Bharat Overseas Bank.

TICEL acts as a focal hub for Biotech R&D industry in major domains of biotechnology such as medical biotechnology, nutraceuticals, agricultural biotechnology and bioinformatics.

Infrastructure

TICEL Bio Park offers world class infrastructure for biotech R&D, implemented in 5 acres of land in Chennai at a capital outlay of Rs.625 million (US$ 12.5 million) has now achieved 100 per cent occupancy with National and International clients.

The Bio Park has proposed a Bio Resource Centre to offer facilities for wet labs for fermentation & microbiology, downstream processing, molecular biology, plant tissue culture, animal tissue culture and analysis.

Tenancy Area

The tenancy area has 74 modules of 1525 square feet each, available for clients to develop their own customized R&D labs of BSL2 standards, upgradeable to BSL3, in accordance with GLP standards. The park also allows its clients to install their facilities appropriate to perform their independent research and development activities.
